About this work
A folded and bunched cloth rises into a peaked, hood-like shape with a small dark gap near its crown suggesting an eye or opening, set above a wider, looser mass of fabric gathered into soft rounded folds beneath it. No body or figure is shown; the composition isolates the cloth itself against a flat black ground.
Charcoal is handled in smooth, closely blended greys across the upper form, contrasted with looser, more textured strokes in the lower drape. The tight vertical creases and the small dark aperture give the folded shape an ambiguous, almost face-like presence, lending the study a quiet, mysterious character.
