About this work
Three ballerinas rest on the floor of a rehearsal room, foreground figures in white tutus turned toward each other in conversation while a third, in a black leotard, leans back against the barre with arms folded. Behind them, more dancers stretch and adjust their costumes along the mirrored wall, one bending forward in a red-trimmed tutu, suggesting a pause between exercises.
Soft, broken brushwork in whites, blush pinks and warm ochres renders the tulle and skin, while the background dissolves into looser strokes of grey and mauve reflected in a mirror. The gentle, diffused light and unguarded poses give the scene a quiet, intimate mood of backstage camaraderie.
