About this work
A tall, densely leaved tree dominates the center of an overgrown garden, its dark canopy set against a bright sky of drifting clouds. Behind a screen of shrubs and smaller trees, only the gabled roof and chimney of a wooden house are visible; in the foreground, tall hollyhocks, pink cosmos, and other wildflowers crowd a strip of grass.
Bright greens of foliage and grass are built up in short, textured strokes, with pockets of pink and orange flowers adding warm accents against the cooler blues and greens. Strong, even daylight picks out individual leaves and blossoms, giving the overgrown garden a lush, sun-filled abundance.
