About this work
Two seated, robed figures face each other across a laid table bearing a whole fish, a bowl of fruit, a wine bottle, and a small glass, while a third, dimmer figure hovers in shadow at the left edge. Tall skeletal ladder-frames and a wheeled stool fill the space behind and around them, and green bentwood chairs stand in the foreground.
Rendered almost entirely in soft lavenders, creams, and muted greens, the scene dissolves ordinary perspective into a flattened, dreamlike arrangement of overlapping shapes. Loose, chalky brushwork blurs faces and hands, while the odd scaffolding forms and floating objects give the quiet tabletop conversation an unsettled, surreal undertone.
