About this work
A whitewashed church with clustered blue-green and gold onion domes and a tall bell tower stands on a grassy riverside rise, partly screened by trees with reddish autumn foliage. A small dark-clad figure stands near the entrance, and an overhanging birch branch frames the upper right corner.
Pale grey-blue sky, cream stucco walls and warm rust-colored bushes are built up with loose, confident strokes that read as sunlit plaster and drifting cloud. Below, the domes and greenery dissolve into a dark, rippled reflection, and the whole scene has the bright, unhurried calm of a plein-air river view.
