About this work
Large pale boulders, streaked with soft pink, green and grey, crowd the middle ground above a flat, almost white expanse of misty sea and sky. In the lower foreground, tiny geometric shapes -- pointed beach umbrellas and rectangular loungers -- are scattered across a sandy stretch of shore. No figures are distinguishable, only these small man-made markers of a beach below the rocks.
The palette is almost monochrome, built from chalky pinks, greys and sage greens layered in soft pastel strokes that blur rock, water and haze into one another. Edges are broken and atmospheric rather than sharp, dissolving the horizon into the pale sky. The effect is quiet and hazy, more a study of light and distance than a beach scene.
