About this work
A domed church tower with an ornate spire rises against a near-black night sky, its white and pale-blue stone walls caught by a raking light that models the dome, cornices and an arched doorway. Split across two panels, the building appears slightly doubled, with a second structure glowing faint green at the right edge.
Thick, loosely dragged strokes of white, grey-blue and rust build the illuminated masonry against the enveloping black ground, with almost no transition into the surrounding darkness. The stark spotlight effect and fractured framing give the architecture a hushed, mysterious presence, as if seen briefly before dissolving back into night.
