About this work

Two small rowboats sit in shallow water at the foreground, while a large weathered fishing boat and a dark-hulled trawler rest against a stone quay beyond, their masts bare of sails. A wooden shed stands at right beside two figures on the pier, and a whitewashed village curves along the shore with a green headland closing the bay.

Cool blue-grey water and sky contrast with the warm ochre, rust, and cream tones of the hulls and stone embankment. Broken, palette-knife brushwork builds thick texture across the foreground quay, while looser strokes render the distant houses, lending the scene a quiet, workaday harbor calm.
