About this work
A bouquet of flowers, rendered almost to the point of abstraction, sits centered against a softly modulated grey-green ground. Individual blooms and leaves are only suggested through patches of white, lavender and dark green, with no vase or table clearly defined.
The palette is restrained to soft greens, greys and touches of violet and blue, applied with a loaded brush and knife in overlapping dabs. Edges dissolve into the surrounding haze, giving the still life a hushed, dreamlike quality rather than botanical precision.
