About this work
Seven books stand pressed together spine-out on a flat surface, their upper covers tilting slightly forward and back so the top edges form an uneven skyline. Each spine is rendered as a distinct color block, from pale gray and cream to violet, ochre and cobalt, with a few faint pink and orange marks suggesting titling.
The thickly loaded brush leaves ridged, visible strokes across the flat gray-brown wall and table, giving the surface a tactile, sculptural quality. Cool blues and violets stand out against the warm neutral ground, and the restrained, close-toned palette lends the modest stack a quiet, contemplative stillness.
