About this work
Two small dark boats, their masts jutting upward, rest low on a broad expanse of sandy shore. Behind them a bank of soft white clouds fills much of the upper canvas, with a thin strip of pale blue sky showing through above.
The palette is limited to warm sandy ochre below and cool grey-blue above, with the boats rendered in near-black silhouette. Loose, dragged strokes and dabs of white and grey build the clouds and hulls, giving the small study a quick, breezy, plein-air quality.
