About this work
Two figures reduced to pale, mask-like heads emerge from voluminous, fan-shaped robes built up from feathery, petal-like layers. A third small face is visible faintly between them, a bare twig rises from the ground in the middle distance, and a small sphere and oval cloud-like forms float in the murky sky above.
Rendered in smeared pastel greens, dusty rose and teal, the paint is worked wet-into-wet with heavy, ridged impasto in the robes against thin, hazy washes in the sky. Soft, dissolving edges and the ambiguous, part-human, part-organic forms give the picture an unsettled, dreamlike ambiguity.
