About this work
Layered domes crowned with slender spires rise against a pale sky, the silhouette of St Mark's Basilica emerging from a dense build-up of paint. Below, arched windows and a stone staircase suggest the lower facade and surrounding square, though forms dissolve into loose, overlapping strokes rather than precise detail.
The palette stays close to cream, ivory and grey, warmed by ochre and touched with darker umber accents around the openings. Applied with a heavily loaded brush or palette knife, the thick, scraped textures blur architectural edges into a soft, hazy glow, giving the familiar landmark a dreamlike, weathered presence.
