About this work
The view looks down a narrow Barcelona street from a balustraded balcony framed by an arched doorway on the left. Tall plane trees with dense green foliage fill much of the composition, their trunks and branches crossing the sunlit pavement where small figures stroll past café tables and striped awnings under a hazy sky.
Worked in pastel on textured paper, the palette is built from warm ochres, dusty pinks and layered greens, with the paper's tone showing through as a warm ground. Loose, granular strokes and broken color evoke bright midday light filtering through leaves, giving the scene a relaxed, sun-warmed atmosphere.
