Balaklava

A high grassy hillside dominates the foreground, crossed by winding dirt paths and dotted with pale boulders and low bushes. The slope descends toward a distant blue bay glimpsed at the lower right, with pink-tinged cliffs rising beyond it and a scatter of small buildings at the base of the hill on the left. Large clouds fill most of the pale blue sky above.

The palette is built from soft greens, ochres and grey-blues, with warmer pink and rust tones on the far cliffs. Light is even and diffused, suggesting overcast daylight, and the pastel is applied in loose, broken strokes that render grass and cloud alike as soft, granular texture, giving the view an airy, tranquil feel.
