About this work

A tall, peeling blue double door sits recessed under a triangular metal-bracketed awning, its paint worn through to rust-brown patches. A small black dachshund sits alone on the stone threshold, and a potted plant and small vase stand on a block to the left, beside a glimpse of pale masonry.

Bright raking sunlight falls diagonally across the whitewashed wall and door, breaking into warm ochre and cool blue patches and casting sharp shadows from the awning's ironwork. Thick, textured brushstrokes build up the flaking paint and stone, giving the quiet doorway a sunlit, still, softly nostalgic calm.
