About this work
The white stone arch of the Rialto Bridge spans the canal, its shop-lined span crossing between weathered red and cream palazzo facades. A red-striped market awning and vendor stalls cluster at the left bank where small figures gather, while a gondola and moored boats rest among wooden pilings in the foreground water, a bell tower rising behind the bridge on the right.
Soft greys and pale creams define an overcast sky, set against warm terracotta walls and the muted green of the canal. Quick, loose dabs suggest the figures and market goods, while broken brushstrokes render the water's surface, lending the quiet canal-side scene a calm, everyday atmosphere.
