About this work
A wide band of ochre-toned grass, edged with lingering strips of snow, leads back to a mixed line of conifers and bare deciduous trees along the horizon; a pale moon hangs low in the sky above them. The same tree line and moon are mirrored in a calm pond that fills the lower half of the canvas, with more snow-flecked grass in the near foreground.
The palette is soft and muted - ochre, olive, grey and lavender - unified by the diffused light of dusk. Even, smooth brushwork blurs the boundary between land and reflection, producing a hushed, drowsy stillness typical of an early-spring evening.
