About this work
Three pale green apples sit in a row on a plain light-toned shelf or windowsill, each showing a small dark stem hollow at the top. Soft shadows pool beneath them, and the space around is otherwise empty, with no other objects in view.
The palette is almost monochrome, built from pale greens, creams and greys, and the entire image is rendered in soft focus with blurred, dissolving edges. Diffuse, even light removes almost all contrast, leaving the fruit looking faint and ghostly, and lending the composition a quiet, contemplative calm.
