About this work
Four figures - a man at the left edge, a woman in a red-and-green headscarf behind, a central woman in a teal hood carrying a dark bundle on her back, and a barefoot boy in a green tunic - press close together as if moving as one, the woman lifting an ochre-gold blanket overhead while a hand from behind grips its other end, and small leaves falling nearby.
Painted in oil on canvas with a deep teal-black ground isolating the group in warm light, the palette is built from earthy reds, ochres and moss greens; loose brushwork softens faces and hands while the shawl is built with thicker, drier strokes. The huddled poses and drifting leaves create a tense, protective mood.
