About this work
Several small vessels are moored together in a harbor, their masts, funnels, and rigging overlapping against a low, hazy shoreline. The nearest boat has a rust-orange hull and wooden deck fittings, while the ones behind it are painted grey and blue, their hulls reflected in the rippled water below.
Thick, squared-off strokes of ochre, rust, grey and cobalt build the hulls and masts with almost no outline, letting color blocks stand in for detail. A soft, overcast light flattens the distant hills into pale lavender-grey, giving the whole harbor a quiet, working-boat calm.
