About this work
A narrow street climbs between stone-walled houses in a Crimean village, with a two-storey building at its center showing pale-blue balcony rails and green window shutters. A large tree arches over the road, casting dappled shade, while a woman in a light dress leads two small children along the sunlit pavement in the foreground, a hazy mountain rising above the rooftops beyond.
Cool greens, blues, and violet-grey shadows are set against warm ochre patches of direct sun. Paint is applied thickly with a loaded brush or palette knife, breaking the scene into choppy, faceted strokes rather than smooth description. The strong midday light and broken brushwork give the street a lively, sketch-like immediacy typical of a sunny resort town.
